Philip A. Thayaparan, P.E.

Philip A. Thayaparan, P.E.

Principal-in-Charge

In addition to managing operations for Prudent Engineering, Mr. Thayaparan has been providing bridge, structural, and highway engineering services for the past 33 years. He has performed bridge load ratings and design for a wide variety of bridges, including curved girder bridges and various prestressed concrete bridges on integral abutments. Mr. Thayaparan has also designed approach highways involving horizontal and vertical alignment. His construction management duties have included advertising for and receiving bids, reviewing construction schedules and shop drawings, attending site visits, and ensuring design deliverables adhere to specifications. Mr. Thayaparan is thoroughly familiar with the standards of federal, state, local municipality, and agency projects.

Michael A. Venturo, L.S.

Michael A. Venturo, L.S.

Principal, Manager of Land Survey Services

Mr. Venturo has over 34 years of experience in survey and mapping, 22 of which include project management. He has completed multiple design survey and mapping assignments for the NYSTA/Canal Corporation and NYSDOT, and has managed and performed surveying tasks on federally and locally funded public works and hazardous waste projects in 55 Upstate NY counties. He has completed projects with other state agencies, such as OGS, OPRHP and DASNY. Mr. Venturo has also completed design surveys for the US Coast Guard, Upstate Medical University, Niagara Falls Airport, SUNY ESF, Alfred State University, and the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Bradley G. Pcolinsky, L.S.

Principal, Survey Coordinator

Mr. Pcolinsky has over 20 years of experience in land surveying. He is responsible for survey coordination, data collection, courthouse research, data management, report preparation, GPS post processing, and CAD drafting. Mr. Pcolinsky is a licensed land surveyor in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania and holds a B.S. and A.A.S. degree in Surveying from Pennsylvania State University. He is adept with numerous survey instruments and systems, including LiDAR, robotics, and NYSNet and KeyNet RTK and is currently certified for confined space activities.

Beverly J. Strachan

Manager of Construction Inspection Services (New York State)

Ms. Strachan has provided construction inspection services for 39 years, including 15 years of construction management for projects ranging in value from $200K to $75M. She has managed many projects, including small- and large-scale bridge and highway construction jobs for Onondaga, Cayuga, Cortland, Wayne, Jefferson, Livingston, Erie, and Cattaraugus Counties. Ms. Strachan is recognized by the NYSTA, NYSDOT, and various New York State counties for her ability to assemble and manage a professional team of construction inspection personnel. Her success as a project manager is routinely demonstrated by her ability to recognize staffing needs and provide required training for staff certification.

Daniel M. Huffaker, P.E.

Daniel M. Huffaker, P.E.

Manager of Engineering Services

With 30 years of industry experience, Mr. Huffaker manages Prudent’s design department. He has a diversified career in civil engineering design, project management, and inspection, with a specific focus on bridge structures and site enhancement projects. His project experience includes managing bridge engineering projects, including the design and construction administration of existing and newly constructed highway bridges, and site structural elements. Mr. Huffaker has completed the NYSDOT Methods of Bridge Inspection Training.

James Roberts

James Roberts

Manager of Construction Inspection Services (Maryland)

Mr. Roberts has over 16 years’ experience in residential and commercial construction as a Project Engineer, Resident Engineer, and Field Inspector, as well as a Team Leader for Districts 5 and 3 while with the Maryland State Highway Association (SHA). His expertise includes construction inspection, project management, procurement, construction plan and shop drawing review, cost estimates, RFI’s, contracts, and materials testing. Joining Prudent in 2020, Mr. Robert’s abilities in construction management and liaising with project owners and state and municipal agencies including the City of Baltimore, Maryland SHA, and Maryland Transit Authority have made him a valuable asset and leader in Prudent’s expansion into new markets in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Manager of Energy Services

Mr. Pohl has over 44 years of experience, 37 years of which were in the electric and gas utility industry.  He is responsible for managing the firm’s Energy Sector. He has in-depth project experience with electric generation, civil/site engineering, buildings, warehousing and distribution, and emergency logistics planning. Additionally, Mr. Pohl brings a unique perspective on projects related to transmission, distribution, energy, and fuel. As Energy Sector manager, he is responsible for business development, client contact, proposal development, project management, and drives Prudent’s pursuits with agencies such as NYPA, NYSOGS, DASNY, NYSOPRHP, and NYS Canal Corporation.

Robert R. Sanders

Manager of Construction Inspection Services (Philadelphia, PA)

Mr. Sanders joined Prudent in 2018 with over 20 years of construction inspection background having worked on projects for PennDOT, Pennsylvania Turnpike, and many municipalities. Bob is NICET III certified and has numerous additional highway inspection certifications. He will manage Prudent's CI work from the King of Prussia office outside of Philadelphia. His territory covers all of eastern Pennsylvania. Bob recruits, trains and manages the firm's inspectors.

Ronald W. Centola, P.E.

Ronald W. Centola, P.E.

Manager of Design Services

Mr. Centola has over 45 years of experience in the programming, planning, design, and construction of transportation improvement projects, including municipal and county government management positions. He has completed over 95 federally- funded locally administered projects. He served as the Director of Transportation and Vice President of Clark Patterson Lee in Rochester, New York, where he implemented $20 million of transportation highway and bridge projects, coordinating work between four branch offices. Mr. Centola is a member of several professional affiliates, including the American Society of Civil Engineers, NYS County Highway Superintendents Association, and the American Society of Highway Engineers. He is a professionally registered P.E. in New York, Pennsylvania, and he received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Terry L. Mckiven

Terry L. Mckiven

Manager of Hydrographic Services

Mr. Mckiven manages Prudent's Hydrographic Services department. A U.S. Army veteran, he has over 15 years' experience in land and hydrographic surveying and mapping. He is a U.S. Coast Guard-certified Master Captain with expertise in a range of hydrographic operations, such as single- and multi-beam bathymetric survey; sub-bottom surveying and profiling; side-scan surveying; bottom classification mapping; and endangered species studies. Mr. Mckiven has successfully completed hydrographic projects on bodies of water of varying size, from ponds to large waterways, including Raitan Bay off Staten Island, Long Island Sound, NYS Canal System, and the Hudson River. In addition to his technical skills, Mr. Mckiven is a HYPACK-certified professional with proficiency using SonarWiz 6.
