Bridge Inspector (Team Leader)

Prudent Engineering has been serving clients in New York and Pennsylvania since 1992 employing more than 70 people. The company provides site/civil engineering and land surveying services; specifically bridge design, construction inspection, bridge condition inspection, and land surveying.  Prudent’s primary clients are transportation agencies such as New York State Department of Transportation, NYS Thruway Authority, PennDOT and county highway departments.

We have an opportunity for a Bridge Inspector – Team Leader.

Responsibilities of the position:

Conduct condition inspection of bridges in conformance with all NYSDOT policies and guidance

Ability to work with minimal direction

Prepare inspection reports that are clear and concise

Accurately and efficiently enter inspection information into NYSDOT’s BDIS bridge inspection database system

Competently schedule inspection teams and coordinate contractors supporting the inspection effort, such as special access equipment, WZTC, RR flagmen, etc.

Ability to work safely and efficiently in high traffic environments and around heavy equipment 

Minimum Qualifications:

BS degree in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Structural Engineering

Minimum of seven, preferably 10, years of experience in the field with a minimum of three years Bridge experience: design, construction, inspection

New York State PE registration or the ability to acquire same in three months or less

Previous approval by NYSDOT, NYSTA or other agency as an Inspection Team Leader, or meet the NBIS standards to qualify as a Team Leader

NYSDOT and /or NHI training in safety inspection of in-service bridges

Valid driver’s license

Ability to fulfill the physical demands of the job: carrying, erecting, and climbing ladders: working at heights fro ladders and lift vehicles

Experience with NYSDOT BDIS a plus

Prior experience as a Team Leader of Assistant Team Leader desirable

High level of situational awareness with a strong motivation to maintain a safe work environment at all times 

This position requires considerable travel, particularly for a candidate that does not currently reside in the subject Regions.

Civil/Site Engineer

We have an open position at our Syracuse office for an Engineer with Civil/Site skills and 5+ years’ experience.

Duties:

Development and/or analytical review of:

♦ Feasibility studies - conceptual designs – design calculations – final design specifications – engineering and construction cost estimates – support of permitting applications

♦  Participate in field condition inspections, safety assessments, and produce appropriate technical reports of findings

♦  Provide construction management field and office support as required

♦  Project management

 Qualifications:

♦  BS Civil Engineering preferred (AAS Civil Tech minimum) with 5+ years’ experience

Construction Manager (Buildings)

Prudent Engineering is seeking an experienced Construction Management (CM) executive capable of developing and managing the CM department for the vertical building market from our East Syracuse, New York office.

Prudent’s primary clients are transportation agencies such as the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT), New York State Thruway Authority (NYSTA), Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), and various federal, state and local agencies and municipalities.

The successful candidate must be knowledgeable and experienced in all aspects of vertical construction, including management, methods, inspection, scheduling, environmental health and safety, OSHA, and project reporting.  This will be a new, start-up position so the successful candidate must be able hire and supervise staff, and if necessary to go into the field and actually manage construction. The candidate will manage, support, train and provide direction and leadership within the department.

The candidate must be experienced in CM in at least one of the following areas: buildings, dams, water control structures, water resources, power transmission and substations, airports, or other major civil engineering works.

The candidate must possess a demonstrated history of strong leadership, deep practical construction understanding, commitment to safety, a proven track record for customer service, timely project delivery, a working knowledge of scheduling and cost controls. Resident Engineer/Resident Inspector

 

Prudent Engineering, LLP, is seeking a qualified Resident Engineer/Resident Inspector for a construction upgrade project at the Wastewater Treatment Plant in Olean, New York. 


 The candidate should have the following experience:
• A general knowledge of all aspects of wastewater treatment plant construction, including civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, instrumentation, etc.
• Experience on multi-prime contracts
• A thorough knowledge and understanding of the shop drawing submittal process
• The ability to coordinate construction and/or design changes with the design engineer and contractors
• Ability to foresee construction issues before construction begins
• Experienced in the analysis of the contractors' CPM schedule
• Excellent written and communication skills
• Working knowledge of record management systems, such as Prolog and Expedition
• Experience with chairing bi-weekly construction meetings and preparation of meeting minutes

Design Engineer

We have an opportunity for a Senior Civil/Structural Engineer located in our East Syracuse office.

Scope of Duties:

The following are typical but not all-encompassing duties of this position:
• Development and review of feasibility studies, analysis, conceptual designs, design calculations, final design and specifications, engineering and construction cost estimates, and support permitting applications
• Participate in field condition inspections, safety assessments, and produce appropriate technical reports of findings
• Provide construction management field and office support as required
• Provide technical guidance and review of junior engineers' and others' work as necessary for theirs and project development
• Project management
• Attend public meetings as necessary

Qualifications:
• BS Civil Engineering (MS preferred)
• EIT required,  PE preferred, or the ability to obtain PE in New York State
• Experience with dams, canals, and other water control structures
• Understanding of the core principles of Hydrology and Hydraulics as related to open channel flow
• Stability analysis of civil structures
• Seismic assessment of civil structures and/or geotechnical analysis/design as well as dam safety/design and hydro generation a plus
• Proficient with: Structural analysis software such as STAAD Pro, finite element software, HEC- RAS, Autodesk AutoCAD, MS Office Software, and Project Management
